Meet Sarah

Lead Primary Tutor & Founder

I have been an online tutor since August 2020 and I set up Roots Tutor in 2021.

I am a qualified teacher with over a decade of experience teaching primary education, across both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. I bring all this classroom experience to my online lessons, making sure the learning is fun and engaging!

Over the last two years, I have broadened my reach internationally and currently offer lessons for children of which English is a second language. I have a proven record for improving their speaking, listening, reading and writing skills and plan varied topics to help to extend their vocabulary.

Being able to work one to one or in a small group, I ensure each child receives individual attention and support in their learning, as well as enabling them to build on their prior knowledge and existing skills. I have  trained as a Montessori online tutor and I use the principles of this method of teaching in my online lessons where possible.

I enjoy finding new ways to inspire children to be active, creative and confident lifelong learners.

I look forward to meeting you!

By seamlessly integrating my yoga training into my lessons, I create a learning environment that nurtures the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of my students.

Observing the growth of students, facilitating meaningful success, and aiding them to reach their utmost potential remains an ongoing wellspring of motivation for me.

The input received from parents and carers has consistently been optimistic, expressing gratitude for the significant progress achieved within a brief timeframe.

I have recently retired from teaching after almost 30 years as a Mathematics teacher and Head of Mathematics in both state and private schools in the UK and internationally.  I am also an examiner for Cambridge IGCSE and Pearson Edexcel GCSE Mathematics.

Working with students to help them achieve their very best is my passion whether they achieve a grade 4 or a grade 9.   I have a proven track record of exceptional examination grades and value added performance.

I now specialise in working with students on a 1-1 or small group basis.  Baseline assessments are always thorough, quickly identifying areas of strength and those requiring further work.  Continuous assessment is conducted through retrieval practices with lessons ‘fun’, engaging and tailored to individual students.

Lessons can be in person (in Sidmouth, Devon) or online.  Online lessons will be taught either through Google Classroom or Zoom using a variety of digital writing tools and visualisers, again to suit each student.  Homework will be set after each lesson for consolidation and assessment.

I look forward to meeting you!
